MCFL Preview & Rankings

5 min read

Let’s see if I can get this correct this time…

The anticipated MCFL 2023 schedule has been released, and it’s time for the season preview with my league rankings, yes that is correct another ranking. Now once again my rankings are my rankings and don’t reflect the MCFL actual rankings, so here we go.

League: MCFL

Teams: 10

Conferences: North & South

President: Marcus Thompson

Years: First year as MCFL (Previous BGFL)

Format: 10 Game season, plus playoffs

From the Press Box MCFL Pre Season Power Rankings

  1. Chicago Bird Gang
  2. Fort Wayne Tigers
  3. Lake County Warriors
  4. Indy Bison
  5. Michiana Thunderhawks
  6. Indy Assassins
  7. Joilet Bucs
  8. River City Sharks
  9. St Louis Falcons
  10. Leydon Lyons
  11. Michigan Hurricanes

#1 Chicago Bird Gang

Conference: North

Division: Chicagoland

Division Opponents: Joliet Bucs, Lynden Lions

It’s hard not to give the Englewood Bird Gang the #1 spot going into the MCFL season, they are national champions, and undoubtably the team to beat in the north conference and the road to that north championship goes through the Bird Gang.

#2 Fort Wayne Tigers

Conference: South

Division: Indy

Division Opponents: Indy Bison, Indy Assassins

What. Yes, that is correct I am giving the Tigers the #2 spot based on facts, not feelings…

The Tigers may have rebranded from the Wolverines, but coming into the 2023 season with a record of 10-4 in 2022, the best record of all the Indiana teams, and the road to the south will be one of two roads and one is Fort Wayne.

The Tigers have what look like a schedule where they could finish taking the division and more than likely the conference. Division wise they will see the Bison and the Assassins each twice, at worst they could split with the Bison, they see the Assassins twice as well, they do have a long road trip to St Louis to take on the Falcons as well as the Lions, those will be good matchups, but I think the Tigers overall will be too much for them.

#3 Lake Co Warriors

Conference: North

Division: Northeast

Division Opponents: Michiana Thunder Hawks, Michigan Hurricanes

The Warriors are in the south and are the NE division with the T-Hawks, and Canes. If they can beat the T-Hawks which I feel that they will beat them at least once of the two matchups and sweep the Hurricanes, which could be the sleepers in the NE, not much is known about them at this time. LC is my pick to win the NE division and I am looking forward to their matchup vs the Indy Bison mid-season. We will not get to see the rival game between them and the Tigers this year through and that would have been a great game for sure.

#4 Indy Bison

Conference: South

Division: Indy

Division Opponents: FTW Tigers, Indy Assassins

The Bison are expected to be a top team in the league with very high expectations set by the ownership and staff for the players, and lot’s of confidence, a team with a lot of talent with new “Big Name” signings every day it seems, great front office and world class coaching staff, all things that make up a great organization, as these are all things I have said before about the Bison, and I truly do mean that.

However, they have yet to play a game as the Bison, but we will get to see them in the pre-season, and they kick-off the MCFL season vs the Fort Wayne Tigers which will be a tough opponent for them. Their strength of schedule in which the only challenges that I see that they will have will be FTW, LCW, Bird Gang and maybe the T-Hawks if they don’t let the Bison get into their heads (Which it has already began) I think that the Indy Division will for sure come down to the Bison and FTW, we will see what week one brings us.

#5 Michiana Thunderhawk’s

Conference: North

Division: Northeast

Division Opponents: LCW, Michigan Hurricanes

The T-Hawks are back after a few year hiatus, and we shall see what they do, will the rust be a factor or will they have what it takes with a majority of their original players rejoining them will that be enough for them to get to the top of that MCFL mountain. They have a tough first few weeks of the season, They travel to Chicago to take on the Bird Gang and then a few weeks later they take on the LCW, so maybe the second half of the season will be better for them.

#6 Indy Assassin’s

Conference: South

Division: Indy

Division Opponents: Indy Bison, FTW Tigers

The Indy Assassin’s survived the 2022 season after a rough start and shocked everyone by making to the BGFL championship game and look to get back there again in the MCFL, but it will be a tough task for them as they are in the same division as the Bison, and the Tigers. If they can start the season off strong and look to finish strong it might be a great season for them.

#7 Joliet Bucs

Conference: North

Division: Chicagoland

Division Opponents: Bird Gang, Lynden Lions

The Bucs have been at the bottom for at least the three years I have been around, although last year they did show a spark and get a few wins, and making a late run in the season. They are going to have it tough this upcoming season, as they have a schedule full of tough opponents not to mention they are in a very tough division, could they shock the league, anything is possible, or it could be a long season for the Bucs.

#8 River City Sharks

Conference: South

Division: Deep South

Division Opponents: St Louis Falcon’s

Not much is known about the Sharks, we will have to see what they can do and how they start the season, could we be looking at the sleepers of the league?

#9 St Louis Falcons

Conference: South

Division: Deep South

Division Opponents: River City Sharks

Another team that not much is known about, once again we have to wait till the season start to see what they are made of, will they surprise the league?

#10 Leyden Lions

Conference: North

Division: Chicago Land

Division Opponents: Bird Gang, Bucs

Another new team, and the only reason they are #10 is had to rank them somewhere and just like the Falcons and the Sharks we have to see if they rise to the challenge that they have ahead of them in the 2023 season.

#11 Michigan Hurricanes

Conference: North

Division: Northeast

Division Opponents: Thunderhawk’s, LCW

Another new team, that will be in a tough division and will have to start strong to stay on top of a tough conference.

Here is a sneak preview of week 1 of the MCFL season.
