The Mid Central Football League kicked off its season, and week 1 for sure set the tone for the season as we break down the winners and losers of week 1.

We start with my pick for the game of the week, or at least prior to the coin toss should have been the game of the week.

Indy Bison (1-0) 43 vs Fort Wayne Tigers (0-1) 14

Leading up to this game, which was one of the games that I have been looking forward to seeing, because of the talent both teams have, and I thought it was going to be a good match up and exciting to watch, and the rivalry between the Tigers and the Bison could be one for the ages as anyone who is familiar with minor league football knows that the Ft Wayne vs Indy has always been a rival game, which means that the trash talk would be at an all-time high, which the Tigers did a great job of containing themselves and staying away from it for the most part, I have my opinion on trash talk but I digress, lets get into the game.

Tigers would win the toss and elect to kick the ball; The Bison would score first on a run by RB Corey Bridges who would have multiple scores. The Bison would go up 15-0 in the first quarter but the Tigers would strike and get on the scoreboard late in the first half to make a 15-6 game Bison, would then move the ball would have to settle for a XP to make it a 18-6 game, Tigers would punt on their next possession and the Bison would capitalize on a long pass that would get into the endzone to make the score 23-6 with a 1:30 left in the half.

Tigers would move the ball thanks to two back-to-back penalties that would put them deep into Bison territory they would capitalize on that and get into the endzone, as RB Breon Burgess would get in for his first TD of the 2023 season to make the score 29-14 with a successful 2-point conversion. But that would be all for the Tigers as they would just have to many mental mistakes allowing the Bison to capitalize on them scoring a few more times to make the game to far out of the reach of the Tiger’s to make a comeback. The Bison take home the week 1 win over the Tigers 43-14. Tigers will host the St Louis Falcons in week 2 at home, and the Bison will take on the Indy Assasins who had a bye week in week 1.

Birdgang (1-0) 46 vs Leydon Lions (0-1) 6

Not really much to say about this game other than I would have put my money on the Bird Gang to win this match up in week 1 vs the Lions but even more so that they gave up 6 points, nevertheless they are 1-0 to start the season, and I don’t see the win streak stopping anytime soon.

Thunderhawks (0-1) 6 vs Michigan Hurricanes (1-0) 32

I am not sure what is going on over there in the Thunderhawk’s camp, as it is not looking good for them on the return tour as they get walked on 32-6 by the Hurricanes, are the Canes that good or are the Thawks just that horrible? I am not sure which one I will go with yet.

Week 2 does not get any easier for the Thawks have to travel to take on the Bird Gang. Hurricanes will host the Lake Co Warriors.

St Louis Falcons (0-1) 0 vs River City Sharks (1-0) 6

This game must have been a defensive battle, as the Sharks come out on top with a win 6-0, they will have the bye week next week. The Falcons will travel to Fort Wayne to take on the Tigers.

Bucs (0-0) 12 vs Lake Co Warriors (0-0) 22

Well, it seems that the game was going well, and Lake Co was up on the Bucs 22-12 when an issue with the “Lights” and no scoreboard… which is just insane, so now since the lights went out the game has to be resumed at another time not sure what happened but hopefully it can be fixed before next game, it seemed that it was an issue with the field that was used to play the game.

Overall, a decent opening weekend for the MCFL and the teams, it is a long season, and we shall see who comes out on top and who just survives.

Look for the week 2 preview this week.
